HIDDEN VILLAGE TRAIL 2026
- 11 – 12 APRIL 2026
- PADANG BOLA SEPAK KG BANTAL, ULU TEMBELING, JERANTUT, PAHANG

Kampung Bantal, a traditional Malay village, is located along the Ulu Tembeling River in the Jerantut District of Pahang, Malaysia. This remote village is known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and connection to Malaysia’s indigenous Orang Asli people. Historically, Kampung Bantal served as a vital trading and transit point for people journeying along the Tembeling River, the primary access route into the deep interiors of Taman Negara (the Malaysian National Park). The village’s name, “Bantal,” meaning “pillow” in Malay, is thought to have been inspired by a massive boulder in the river resembling a pillow, which became a landmark for travelers navigating the river.
The Ulu Tembeling area in the Jerantut District of Pahang comprises several traditional Malay villages, often accessible by boat along the Tembeling River. Here are the main villages (kampung) in Ulu Tembeling:
-
Kampung Kuala Tahan – Known for being the main gateway to Taman Negara.
-
Kampung Bantal – One of the larger and historically significant villages in Ulu Tembeling.
-
Kampung Mat Daling – A traditional village further upriver, known for its serene environment and connection with indigenous communities.
-
Kampung Gusai – A small village offering a peaceful lifestyle and traditional Malay culture.
-
Kampung Pagi – Known for its scenic surroundings and close-knit community.
-
Kampung Kuala Sat – A village with lush natural surroundings and popular for eco-tourism.
These villages each offer a unique experience of traditional Malay and Orang Asli culture and are part of the rich ecological and cultural landscape surrounding Taman Negara. The remoteness and natural beauty of Ulu Tembeling make it a sought-after area for eco-tourism, river cruises, and trekking.
